I am a mediocre person, who wrote a few dozen
mediocre poems over my long mediocre lifetime

my friends are all much less mediocre than me
and gave me meaning while taking some as well

this is all fair, noble, and good, and proper
like using punctuation marks to tailor a line

meaning is what resonates with some heartbeat
winnowing rice fields leaves mediocre stubble
